The Samsung 60th Festival of Sport (FOS) Opening Ceremony was successfully concluded today (4 March 2017) at Siu Sai Wan Sports Centre to kick-off the annual mega sports event organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Federation), subvented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and title sponsored by Samsung Electronics H.K. Company, Limited.
Mr. Karl KWOK, MH, Chairperson of the FOS Organizing Committee, Ms. Michelle LI, JP, Director of Leisure & Cultural Services, Ms. ZHAO Yiyin, Vice-President of Information Technology and Mobile Business of Samsung Electronics H. K. Company, Limited, Mr. Ronnie WONG, JP, Hon. Secretary General of the Federation, officiated at the Opening Ceremony to announce the commencement of the FOS this year. To enlighten the Ceremony, the Federation invited the Ambassadors of Samsung 60th FOS, Miss WU Hoi Yan (Muay Thai) and Miss Stephanie AU Hoi Shun (Swimming) to demonstrate warm up exercise and promote “Sport for All” message to all participants.
The Samsung 60th FOS will be held throughout March to June 2017, more than 60 Sports Associations will co-organize around 80 diversified sports events suitable for the public of all ages to take part. Moreover, Samsung 60th FOS Carnival cum Closing Ceremony, one of the celebration events of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will be held in early June, during which various sports activities will be open to the public for sharing the joy of sports.
The Federation would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to Samsung Electronics H.K. The Welcome Home Reception for the Hong Kong, China Delegation to the Sapporo 2017 Asian Winter Games (AWG) was held on the same occasion. Souvenirs were presented to the delegation members during the Reception. Hong Kong sent the largest delegation ever, comprising 78 athletes and officials to the AWG on 19-26 February 2017 to compete in 2 sports, namely Ice Hockey and Skating (Figure Skating and Short Track Speed Skating). The delegation showed our athletes’ endeavor and persistence as well as Hong Kong’s development in winter sports.
