Sports Trivia (Karatedo)

65th Festival of Sport (FOS) - Hong Kong Karatedo Junior Belt Game 2022 will be held closed door on 24 July (Sunday) at Kowloon Bay Sports Centre. SF&OC will arrange live streaming of the competition on FOS Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/sfocfos) from 10 a.m. to 12 n.n. on Sunday. Please stay tuned if you are interested.

A Karatedo tournament may comprise Kumite competition and Kata competition.

Contestants are required to choose any of the 102 Katas approved by the World Karate Federation (WKF) for a Kata competition. There are two main evaluation criteria, i.e. technical performance and athletic performance, will be evaluated by seven judges respectively. Technical performance includes stances, techniques, transitional movements, timing, correct breathing, focus and conformance. Athletic performance is related to strength, speed and balance. Due to the characteristics and development of different styles, expressions of Kata with the same name can be completely different in styles. Athletes are allowed to make slight modifications to the Kata in the competition to match their own styles. Therefore, when we watch a Kata competition, do not forget to pay attention to these arrangements!
