Handball is a sport combining the elements of basketball and football. Do you know the basic rules of a handball competition?

The way of substitution is one of its special characteristics. Players do not need to notify the referee for a substitution during the game. The players must finish the act of substitution within their teams’ respective substitution area. He/she can only enter the court after his/her replacing player has completely left the playing field. Also, only the goalkeeper is allowed to enter the 6-meter goal area. A player in possession of the ball should not take more than three steps without shooting, passing, or dribbling the ball, and should not hold the ball for more than three seconds every time. Under certain fouls situations, a free throw will be awarded to the opposing player. The player does not need to wait for the referee’s whistle to restart the game. They can choose to attack or shoot, and the defensive players are required to maintain a 3-meter distance from the player who starts the free throw. Therefore, handball is highly confrontational. The defensive and offensive team keep exchanging frequently throughout the game, and there are also frequent counterattacks and fast breaks. The fast pace and fierce atmosphere are appealing to audiences.
