
65th Festival of Sport Closing Ceremony and Gymnastics Fun Day Concludes with the HKG Team Sharing Leaping Experiences 500+ Visitors Try out Gymnastics Jumps
The 65th Festival of Sport (FOS) series came to an energic finale today at Plaza Hollywood, following sports-inspired action-packed public participation events hosted across three locations over 18 weeks this summer.
The annual local mega-sports event series was organized by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) and subvented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, with the support from The Gymnastics Association of Hong Kong, China. The 65th Festival of Sport Closing Ceremony and Gymnastics Fun Day brought a close to a summer of family sporting fun.
In a day of high-adrenaline activity, which included free public gymnastics trials, the 65th FOS Ambassadors and Hong Kong athletes were invited to share their stories and inspire people of all ages to exercise proactively, topping off a summertime of sporting FOS fun days targeting families.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Mr. Timothy T. T. FOK, GBS, JP, President of the SF&OC and Mr. Tony K.L. YUE, BBS, JP, Chairperson of the FOS Organizing Committee cum Vice President of SF&OC. As the last in a series of three FOS signature events, the Gymnastics Fun Day featured trials of three disciplines, rhythmic gymnastics, aerobic gymnastics and trampoline, which attracted over 500 visitors to show off their aerial skills.
The 65th FOS Ambassadors, LEUNG Chun Shek (rowing) and NG Kiu Chung (gymnastics) attended the event, joining hand with Hong Kong gymnast Angel WONG Hiu Ying, Long Distance Runner Crystal VUT Tsz Ying and the FOS Buddies. The athletes shared their own dream-pursuing sporting journeys to encourage the public to work out regularly and engage with friends and families through sports.
In thanking for the Hong Kong public for their enthusiastic support of all the FOS events, Mr. Tony YUE, Chairperson of the FOS Organizing Committee remarked, "Riding on the recent sports boom in Hong Kong, the Festival of Sport has enjoyed the active participation of the public in activities that highlights a thriving sporting culture in the city.”
“In conveying the sports-inspired message Stride Forward Hand-in-Hand, the Festival of Sport has hosted a variety of physical sporting events this year. We were able to showcase the closed-door competitions by broadcasting online, allowing the public to get involved in supporting local athletes.
“Looking ahead, the Festival of Sport will continue to partner with various national sports associations in promoting sport for all across a wide variety of channels and platforms, bringing to the public diversified sports activities including sports competitions, fun days and live broadcasts, setting the stage for another wave of sporting ‘buzz’ over the coming year.”
