Sports Trivia (Powerlifting)

Many of you may have heard of powerlifting and weightlifting, do you know the differences between them?

Powerlifting is a sport aiming at building up body strength with barbells. In powerlifting competition, it is divided into 3 categories, including squat, bench press, and deadlift, contesting the athletes’ limb strength. Powerlifting originates from weightlifting. Both of them require a number of techniques and high level of flexibility. However, weightlifting requires a faster nerve impulse transmission speed, balancing and explosive power. It is more difficult for aging players. On the other hand, in powerlifting the athletes are competing for maximum strength at a stroke. It is easier to learn and handle. To begin with, people can start their squat and bench press training in a normal fitness centre without a weightlifting platform, favouring the public to have a comprehensive experience in their daily lives and enjoy the joy of powerlifting. It has gained popularity all over the world.

65th Festival of Sport – Hong Kong Powerlifting Championships 2022 will be held on 13 August (Saturday) at Queen Elizabeth Stadium.
